Better explain that for a moment. I mean the way that the whole universe sits on an even keel and each story starts at that balanced plot line, creates an protaganist, builds on it, creates a pivotal situation of danger and intrigue, resolves it and returns.
So from the moment that Clark decided to be bad after all and headed off to the city I knew how it was going to end and lost interest.
Then after all this time I see they still haven't abandoned the same idea. Then again, how can they not? They have the end, the beginning and various points along the way mapped out and they have to match the plot to those...not ideal for creative license.
What you say rings true, but I don't think the story arcs of "Smallville" are anywhere NEAR as predictable as those of every Star Trek series with the exception of "Deep Space Nine". That staid formula is actually one of the reasons I was so incredibly frustrated with Trek in general and "Enterprise" in particular.
On "Smallville" there are in fact threads that continue from one episode and season to the next and things do get much "greyer" in terms of relationships, especially where Lionel and Lex are involved.
Having said all that, yes, this does fall under a particular style of TV show and storytelling. It certainly isn't "24". :D

As a side note, you'd think that someone who has been knocked unconscious as many times as Lana has so that she never sees Clark using his powers to save her would have some serious brain damage at this point.
I was sorry to see Schneider leave the show - I enjoyed his character a lot. I liked that they made him wise without being always right. He could go overboard on some things - it just made him human and more likeable, IMO.

HER PRESENCE HAS BROUGHT THE SHOW TO A STAGANATION POINT. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO FORWARD, ONLY IN CIRCLES
About freakin' time!

And I'm FINALLY starting to like Lana. :-)
Vic
and how clark suffered for his decision
i hate lana
why can't just they kill her off
the show seems redundant because of her
Trust me, most of are tired of it as well.

>Lex and Clark friendship. In those days Lex
went evil because he blames Superboy for making him loose his hair.
>Clark and Lana relationship. They were never
exactly revealed to be a couple but they did
walk hand in hand. In those Lana had the annoying habit of saying, "Only Superboy can do this" , "Clark did you think you were Superboy.".
>Jonathan Kent dying was also there. Of course he
died after Clark finished college and Martha also
died.
>Clark also discovered his weakness to kryptonite
during a field trip. This time instead of Lex,
Jonathan discovered lead can block it's
radiation. As in Smallville, they did keep a
piece for them self.
>The Kwatchi caves, not exactly, I don't remember a specific name given but it is the place where Clark keeps all of his Krypton related stuff. It's also a passage way away from his home so that
he can fly out without Lana seeing him.
>Pete Ross discovered his secret but never revealed it to Clark. He keeps it written in a diary. Like Smallville's Pete he was serious about
protecting Clark's secret so he kept the diary in a bank vault.
>Clark's journey into the Phantom Zone was also one of the tales. In those days, however Phantom Zone wasn't a desert like dimension or a mirror, instead you become a real ghost. No one can see, hear, feel or see you. Only way to find you is of you swallow a pill they give you. When a special light is shown it makes your bones luminous.
> Clark meeting Bizzaro, not exactly, it was actually General Zod's clones. However, Smallville
showed both of them separately.
>Clak's inability to fly. Yes, Superboy can fly. But he was sloppy with it as was Smallville's Clark. He got the hang of it when he entered high school and Jonathan used balloons to train him.
Well what do you know Smallville does stay true to the Superman legend. Even if it is from the 60's.
Oh, and I'm only 14 and I know more than those who read Superman for 10 or 12 years. So if you don't
believe me, type: http://supermanthrutheages.com/tales/1960's.php
I also completely agree with Whyskey, serious, she's been knocked out ever single episode. You'd think she'd have brain damage or at least a huge dent in her head or something. At least Lex has some sort of excuse for always recovering: he's a meteor freak. She's just weird.
I didn't used to be a Lana hater, but when Lois came, I realized what a total wimp she was, despite her sudden ability to kick ass in one episode earlier in the series.
