LOL @ Vic
After you mentioned at TMB that you have it in your site, I went it so I can spread the joy around. This film is going to kick a lot of butts!
I really really loved it, I mean I can not remember a time I said OMG! and also cursed at the same time. As in WTH and WTF??? This film is gonna be so bad (I meant that in a good way) that basing it on this trailer I have already put Revenge of the Sith to my number 1 Star Wars film for all time and bumped Empire Strikes Back to number 2. I know its silly but hey, I dont care!!!
May the FORCE be with you Vic and thank you for providing me with another outlet to do this today. Oh youll see me more of me in your site, so heaven help us! *winks*
Thanks Simone. I was just REALLY disappointed by Ep I, held out some hope for Ep II, and that was dashed against the rocks as well... so I don't want to be let down again.
The movie I'm really looking forward to this year is Batman. :D
Vic
Okay, I'll try to keep this up to snuff as best as I can, but at the time of writing, there are currently only a few active sites carrying the televised Revenge of the Sith Trailer simply because there's a...
I have HIGH hopes for this one though, although yes, I am so looking forward to Batman Begins and even War of the Worlds, the anticipation for Episode III cannot be beaten at least to me personally.
but did you recognice, that you cut off the trailer at the sides? was there no other way? Anyway, nice quality.

As? se les suele quedar la cara a los fans de Lucas cada vez que tiran el dinero en una de las partes de la primera (es decir, la segunda) trilog?a de Starwars. Seguramente todos ellos, si hasta lo...
I did a google search for the trailer and screenrant was listed on the first page. It takes a lot of hits to get there. You aint kidding about the traffic!
Have you heard from George Lucas yet Vic? LOL :D
Vic
Dude... you've nailed it. I agree completely.
Vic
How did you get that????
It was shown on the O.C. and it wasnt supposed to officially be realeased on www.starwars.com until Monday.
Unless you're a hyperspace member, in that case I thank you even more.
the STARWARS Saga, is ComplEtE, and George Lucas is a Master.
19 de MayO.!!!!...
Its taking ages to download though, is it still here?
In relation to Dan's comments on Christenson and portman, i used to think they were a bit wooden, but look at the dialouge they had to work with! I didnt mind attack of the clones, i liked it but the dialogue is absoloutely embarrasing. I find it hard to believe that came froma professional writer.
I rate christenson as an actor and i bet he's loving the thought of being allowed to actually act this time round.
Anyways, this site rocks.....thanks and.....er.....roll on may 19th, alkready booked holiday from work :D
This has been an interesting thread. As an actor myself, I feel that bad scripts can make any actor look bad and bad actors can make any script look bad. The dialogue was a definitive travesty in Ep 2, which had exciting action sequences and a fairly interesting storyline. The scenes between Christenson and Portman (both competent actors on some occassions) were unbearable. The script seemed to be at its worst in those moments and was furthered by dismal acting.
However, I feel that the force is strong in this [next] one...
Any thoughts on the rumor that Palpatine and Sidious are clones?

And thanks for the props, guys. :D
Vic
Jim, I'm with you on that "frolicking in the grass scene". Ack. :x
Vic
Some people don't like the fact that these episodes are "political", with the chancellor, the delegates, the bureaucrates, etc. For my part, I like that. It shows a whole new side of the Star Wars universe; also, it puts politics and corruption at the source of the fall of the republic and of the rise of the empire.
I hate George Lucas. Kottke nails it here. Once every three years, the first trailer for yet another crappy George Lucas Star Wars movie is released somewhere to great fanfare....
But I guess he was right when he said he was getting a little too old for the bussiness and it wasn't too tied in with the rest of the movies. At least he is concidering a tv series, wich hopefully will go over well. (This is just a rumor, but I do know for a fact he did talk about this as an idea.)
I can't wait for it to come out though! A few days off from my birthday of May 16th (Thanks George for the b-day presents :P). Me and a gang of friends are going to see the midnight show on opening week. I think it will be the only time I would not be upset about wetting my pants.
Anyway, thanks for posting the trailer.
Here's hoping...
Vic
Vic
I read the original script. And there were some terribly written scenes that they thankfully cut from Ep2 with Padme and her sister or her mother, or some crap like that. That would have ruined it for me.
About the Sidious/Palpatine clone thing...Yes, I've always thought Sidious was the Emperor, but then I heard this rumor. Sure, it's a rumor, but it's kind of interesting...
I don't want to like it. I don't want to look forward to it. I don't want to even hope it will be "good." But... damn. I just can't help it. Could it be...? Characters in which we feel a...
Found this site by searching for the new trailer, read the comments and felt the need to post. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and here's mine on SW: I was there on line, June 1977 the day Episode IV came out. I wasn't all that impressed but it was fun in a comic strip sort of way.
Fast forward to E1, which my son and I saw several times and thoroughly enjoyed. I liked it better than E2 but I have high hopes that E3 is going to be even better. Looking forward to playing hookey on 5/19 and catching one of the early shows.

I can't believe how commercialized George Lucas has become. You have to pay to see a trailer, which is an advertisement. His movies show the Jedi becoming corrupted, but he shares many of these problems. He has been seduced by commercialization.
BTW, the chancellor-as-clone rumour has been around since Episode II.
To be fair, you no longer have to pay to see the trailer... I'm actually streaming it from the Star Wars site.

Bandwidth issues? Aren't you just leeching from AOL's website anyway?
Ehr Vic, where are you?
Point taken however, I will immediately add credit to the post.
Vic
There is a link to save it above the "Courtesy of AOL" sentence.

This is for the people who are complaining too much about what Star Wars is not... I will revert to kid status and enjoy this movie for what they are like I have for all of his movies- with the eyes of a kid...
You've got a good thought there. If those of us who are old enough to have seen the original Star Wars back in '77 are *really* honest with ourselves, we'd have to admit that it really wasn't terribly "deep" or complex. Just a great popcorn/adventure flick.
Of course the problem is that a movie like that first seen in the teen years or younger can really affect one for years to come and grow to be something in the mind which it never really was in the first place.
Unfortunately we can't go back and see every Star Wars movie with the same pair of eyes.
Vic
Hopefully it will be clarified in the upcoming film.
Vic
I know there are people out there who believe George Lucas can do no wrong but I see the " proof is in the pudding " Or to quote George Lucas " Special effects without a story is a pretty boring thing." How right you are.
I'm afraid you might be disappointed... it seems to me that he used the Clone Wars cartoon (which was excellent BTW, far better than the previous two movies) to show the events of the Clone War.
Why not Vic? Why cant you watch the films in the eyes of a child?
I am 34 now and I admit, all the Star Wars films, both original and the prequels are not "deep or complex films" that you need to mull over nor its plot will help solve the problems of the world, nor it will help to save the environment or eradicate terrorism, but it was entertaining. For 2 hours, I am not thinking of my problems, I am being entertained and it was worth it. When I was a kid, being entertained even meant so much more. I still remember how that felt, and only the Star Wars movies can ever do that to me.
Let's just admit that some of us, that kid in us have already grown up, and there is nothing wrong with that. But for those who still looks at the Star Wars movies particularly the prequels as great fun, it's because the kid in them is still alive, nothing really wrong with that either is it???
Oh and Darth Sidious is also Emperor Palpatine, who else could it be?
I don't know... either I've grown up too much, or I'm rationalizing on behalf of this series.
I look at the Pixar films, that do still bring out the kid in me, but for some reason I want to hold Star Wars movies to a higher standard. I'm not sure why... maybe because the first three were so important and formative to me.
I'm still perfectly capable of suspending disbelief during a movie, but I'm also sensitive to things that knock me out of that "zone". Like a bad performance by Hayden or the kid before him, an important character named "Shmi" , midiclorians(??) as an explanation for the force, or the immaculate conception of a character who goes on to be evil.
Vic
http://www.mobsvideo.com
Taking your kid to see these films, I would say, helps you to again see them "through the eyes of a child."
Now that you mention it, it does take me back when I watch a movie with my daughter.
She's only 8 and absolutely loves classic Trek. I get a kick out of watching those with her. :D
Vic
I remember when my li'l sister was 8 when we introduced her to the original trilogy, she absolutely loved it! And I was thinking, that was how I looked like when I saw it for the first time. In pure awe of this cinematic masterpiece.
As for this comment Vic, "I'm still perfectly capable of suspending disbelief during a movie, but I'm also sensitive to things that knock me out of that "zone". Like a bad performance by Hayden or the kid before him, an important character named "Shmi" Wink , midiclorians(??) as an explanation for the force, or the immaculate conception of a character who goes on to be evil".
You didnt like the actors that played the main character then fair enough, I will not say anything anymore that I havent already mentioned here, but the other stuff, I guess you have to take that up with Lucas himself. My take on it is this, it's George Lucas story, not mine, it's his, so he can tell it anyway he wants. It's like that interview he gave in 60 Minutes, he has this house and he painted the house white, then somebody comes over and says "color it green, why is it white", but its his house, and as the owner, he can paint it any color he wants.
So yes, translate that to the bashing the prequels have gotten, and I think there has been too many because we want it done in our way. Maybe we revered the film too much, put it in high esteem, but what if you just leave the expectations aside and just sit there, relax and enjoy the movie? Like I said, it will always go back into being that kid again who doesnt care what goes on outside, he doesnt care at all because he is watching his favorite Star Wars movie, oh, and he might even want to buy a lightsaber after.
I know thats what I am going to be doing. *winks*
I don't want it done "my way"... I just want it done well. The fact that Lucas hasn't given an inch as far as people's opinions about what might have been wrong about those movies really strikes me as arrogance. Then again, I suppose I might be a bit arrogant if I was worth a billion dollars...
I can't enjoy a movie if I think what is on the screen isn't good, just like I wouldn't be able to just relax and enjoy a meal if the food didn't taste right.
Believe me, after Phantom Menace I did not have high expectations for the next movie, and even then my opinion of it after seeing it was that it wasn't great, but ok. Sure, there was stuff I really liked about it, but there was stuff I didn't as well.
I think that George should stick to what he seems to be best at: Special Effects. He should just hunker down at ILM after co-writing the story with someone else (as he did for Episodes V & VI) and hand over the directing reins to someone else (again, as he did with V & VI).
On the bright side, I do believe that this one will be closest in tone to Return of the Jedi, and that's a GOOD thing. :-)
Great conversation!
Vic
It is indeed Vic!!! I am drawn to this discussion since I came home this afternoon, somebody please take me out of here, Vic is not giving in! I told ya Vic, it is to your own detriment that you welcomed me here. LOL
Well, I guess, as the main end users of the product, we have a say in what we think a film should be like at least, and when you said, that you dont really want it done your way but at least do it well, then, I can live with that. *smiles* Film is indeed a subjective form of art, what you thought was a beautiful movie may have been less appealing to me, but it doesnt make it less of what it is.
Most Star Wars fans may have preferred the original films as opposed to the prequels, but that doesnt mean the prequels value as a film has diminished because shocking as it may, there are those who loved the prequels just the same.
And yes, if we were indeed to base it from the trailer we have just been shown, Episode III is so gonna blow us away. If it doesnt, then hunt me down Vic and end my suffering. LOL
Adieu,
jordan
LOL @ Jordan. As much as I love Star Wars, I am trying to have self-control at least this one time, which is well, the last time.
I made the mistake of reading a lot of spoilers for "Attack of the Clones", and on hindsight I feel that I would have enjoyed the film more had I stayed away from Aint It Cool News who was just giving its reviews left right and center. So far I have been good, I know not a squat about it apart from what the trailers have shown us, so it will be so good!!!
That's why I said earlier that, while the first two prequels haven't been terrible, they, along with "Return" have never been able to match up with "Empire." If they had been made without the original trilogy being around, they would have been discounted as just another film with great effects and dull stories. (How many films have had the same problem in recent years). So I would have to agree with you Vic, that seeing those films when we were young left such an indelible imprint on our minds, that every Star Wars film since brings all the same excitement and hope with it that we felt way back when. The problem is they haven't lived up to those films and it's frustrating because we want so badly to have that great Star Wars experience again. Sorry for blabbering on so long, but this site is called Screen Rant, right?
Vic
Like I said, film is subjective, if you think that the prequels wasnt good enough or that it sucked, then I will not try to change your opinion about it. I loved it, but will your dislike for it diminish what I feel towards it, no. That's just how it is.
I even know a lot of people who actually preferred the prequels than the original, what is there to say about them? *winks*
*plays the star wars theme* Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith has now bumped its way into my favourite movies list. Star Wars Episode 6: Return of the Jedi was my number 1 choice of the star wars trilogy....but now that just got bumped back by Episode 3!
SUPPORT IT ANYWAY YOU CAN! ITS GONNA ROCK!! :D :P
I was 12 when I first saw Star Wars. I saw it 32 times at the theater; countless other times on Betamax and VHS.
Now that the Lord of the Rings trilogy has finally been made into an adequate movie trilogy and Star Wars is done. I guess I can die happy.
Or can I? Ever since I was a kid, perhaps due to something I read in a fan-magazine or other interview with Lucas, I've been under the impression there were to be 9 stories told.
Something about a 20 year gap between each trilogy. Which would put Ford, Fisher and Hamill at the perfect age to play Han, Leah and Luke as their fully matured selves.
Ever since Lucas stated the story only spanned 6 movies, I've thought (read: Hoped) he was firing off a bit of chaff for misdirection. Who can really say but Old George himself.
And Smeg, I'm pretty sure this'll be it. I think ole George is probably feeling the whole thing has run it's course.
Vic
"I have already put Revenge of the Sith to my number 1 Star Wars film for all time and bumped Empire Strikes Back to number 2. I know its silly but hey, I dont care!!!"
Vic, cant wait to see the movie!!!
I dont know how to answer that question Steve, but I guess youre among those very few who thought the trailer was laughable. You laughed all the way through, did we miss something? Oy, I guess I really shouldnt be surprised anymore, its just the thing about Star Wars now. Keep it going by the way.
Including this one.
Considering Lucas' recent comments, funny how there's not much tearjerking romance in the trailer, hmm?
Vic
Talk about a buzzkill.
The experience helped galvanize my distain for people who feel the need to dump on someone elses tastes. I feel that if you don't like something, you shouldn't put yourself into the middle of a fangroup and spout off.
What's the purpose? Are they trying to make themselves look smarter than the group their griefing? I think it tends to be a matter of insecurity. Maybe it's simple troll-mentality.
I didn't find anything funny about the trailer. As a matter of fact, I can say the urge to even giggle didn't rise once. It didn't look overly campy or unintentionally funny at any frame.
I saw no instance of anything cringeworthy in the whole trailer. The same cannot be said of E1 and E2 trailers.
There will always be someone who will rain on our parade, that is why I want Episode III to be absolutely fantastic and knock their socks off, maybe for a minute they will shut up.
Regardless, I will enjoy the movie as I have them all since 1977 when my parents made the "mistake" of bringing their little 7 year old boy to a movie that would end up costing them untold dollars in action figures, books, etc, etc, etc, etc....well you get the picture.
On some levels the prequels had their disappointments...Jar Jar, for example--who is actually funny--taken out of context of the movie (and I found it masterful that it was he who was duped into handing the Republic to Palpatine on a silver platter). On other levels, like seeing Jedi in their prime, they excelled. I can find flaws in all of my favorite movies, I just enjoy them for what they are. It's Star Wars...I'll take it anyway I can get it.
That being said, my one concern is in not seeing any other writing credits other than Lucas. Mr Lucas is an INCREDIBLE storyteller...don't think dialogue, think of the plot, the jist of things...the Star Wars saga, the Indiana Jones movies...all Lucas stories, all great. I even find him to be a competent director. What he is not, with all due respect, is a great SCREENPLAY writer. Think of the best of the above: The Empire Strikes Back, story by George Lucas, screenplay by Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan; Raiders of the Lost Ark, story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman, screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan. What I wouldn't have given to have seen Kasdan's name associated with Episode III. I think George should lay out the story and at a minumum get significant input others if not stay hands-off completely.
But, as indicated earlier, I've already got the 18th/19th slated as non-work days...I have a movie theater to be waiting in front of.
I also think he directs great action sequences, but the interpersonal stuff, again, not so hot.
Vic
Very Happy
I saw all of the original trilogy in the theaters as a kid. I was 11 when I saw Star Wars and it changed my movie going habits forever.
Til now Empire has always been my fav for it's broad emotional range and the way you could so easily suspend disbelief in the environments, the physics of the ships, even a muppet, Yoda. I can still remember the shockwave the rushed over the entire audience when DV reveals his identity to Luke (chills).
ROTJ while thrilling at times, as a whole, doesn't measure up to Empire.
Watching them now, the dialog isn't so much better or worse than the pre-quels, but the thing that still gets me is the emotional response that is elicited either from the fond memories or by the films themsleves.
As for the prequels, I try to remember that I am no longer the target audience for the films, and being a SW junkie, I will never really knock any of them, but to me the main thing missing in EP1 & EP2 is that emotional connection. I do however have high hopes for EP3.
I was in a theater to see the Incredibles with my 5 year old daughter and when the trailers started to roll & I saw the Lucasfilm logo, I literally gasped with excitement and she loved it. That first teaser trailer made me feel like that 11 year old from 1977.
The subsequent trailers are extremely well designed to get you hyped up with anticipation and give me every indication that the scope of the story here (regardless of the actual dialog) should suffice to satisfy all but the most cynical of SW fans.javascript:emoticon
My only hope is that Jar-Jar is not spared.
I like this statement very much. I am 34 but I guess only Star Wars has been able to connect to that child in me. Not even animated films of late has been able to achieve that and with the prequels, I was able to recall how precious my childhood has been and some of it mainly due to the way I viewed movies then. Like you, I have very high hopes for Revenge of the Sith as it is the missing link, and hopefully will make Episodes I and II more acceptable even if I personally didnt have any problems with it.
When I found the prequels coming I was very excited and glad to see Lucas finally decided to finish his work. I was looking forward to seeing Mandalorian soldiers fighting Jedi, or a huge clone war but most important of all would be Darth Vader hunting and fighting Jedi.
Well we get Vader get the clone war But all the other stuff Darth making 3PO, Darths has a mommy but no daddy And last but not least there was JAR JAR, thee most annoying BACKGROUND character I have ever seen on film. I can not even watch Episode I without skipping past his scenes.
I am a Starwars IV - VI fan and I want to enjoy the new movie but there is a part of me that feels very cheated. The children of today may like the film but may not simply because there are other scifi's and lots of choices with toys. I think Lucas would have done better to make the movies for the children who grew up with the film and respected the story.
And the complaints are not even essential to the plot. Oh well, I guess this will be the last time I will react to the disillusioned Star Wars fans.
Vic
One thing that disappoints me is that the prequels sorely lack any kind of great music.
The music in the originals was loud, it brought you closer to the picture.
I dont understand why movies arent made like this anymore, it really gets you involved in the film. Transformers the movie is another great example of what a well written score can do for a movie.
The prequels have little to none of this at all. Duel of fates is the only decent score and even that was rather disappointing.
Im hoping that ROTS will have a decent score with modified themes from the sequels. I want to hear the emperors theme, darths theme, the luke and leia theme (the birth) and I want them loud like the originals.
There is so much the music could do for this film but im not really holding my breath. I expect to be disappointed. I think the fans could make better starwars films than lucas even though they are his creation what we expected was just more of the same... we didnt get that.
Vic
For the record, I must be one of the few SW fans who actually got a kick out of Jar Jar. I still quote him quite often "exsqueeze me."
So how old's your son?
:-)
Vic
I am watching it midnight, then back on the first screening time.
May The Force Be With You.
Thanks,
Vic
